“SUSCH, Switzerland — Sept. 11, 2026 — A coach carrying Dutch tourists crashed and overturned on the road between Susch and Zernez in the canton of Graubünden on Thursday evening, killing several people and injuring dozens more.

The vehicle left Zernez shortly before 5 p.m., bound for Susch. Near a construction zone at Less, it veered off the roadway and rolled onto its side.
A total of 45 adults were aboard. Of those, five are now reported to have died, three suffered serious injuries, seven sustained moderate injuries and 30 were treated for minor injuries.

Authorities said formal identification of the deceased had not yet been completed.
Seven medical helicopters operated by Rega, Alpine Air Ambulance and Heli Austria joined 13 ambulance crews in the emergency response. They transported injured passengers to hospitals across the region.
The rescue effort also drew Swiss customs officials, fire brigades from Zernez and Scuol, regional emergency medical teams and forensic specialists.

A towing service and volunteers from the Samaritan Association helped with rescue and recovery. In Zernez, the municipality established a reception point for those affected, providing food and shelter.
The Graubünden cantonal public prosecutor’s office and police are investigating the cause of the crash. A public hotline, 081 256 56 56, was established for inquiries concerning the incident.
Swiss President Guy Parmelin said he was “deeply shocked and dismayed” by the crash.
The president expressed profound sorrow for the families who lost loved ones and thanked the emergency responders who took part in the operation.
Parmelin added Swiss authorities would conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
