Manchester City have agreed a £125 million deal for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernánde— a move that would equal the British transfer record. The 25-year-old Argentina international has been granted permission to undergo a medical ahead of the transfer.
The deal is expected to be completed before Tuesday’s 11 p.m. BST deadline.
The fee matches the current British record Liverpool set in 2025, paying Newcastle United £125 million for Alexander Isak.
Fernández joined the Blues from Benfica in January 2023 for £106.8 million, and signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract with the London club. His move to the Cityzens would reunite him with Enzo Maresca, who previously managed him at The Pride of London and is now in charge at City.
This agreement ends weeks of uncertainty over Fernández’s future.
Chelsea had valued the midfielder at around £120 million and set a deadline for City to make an offer. No bid arrived by that earlier deadline.
City’s agreement on Deadline Day now puts Fernández on course for a move to the Etihad, subject to his medical and the completion of the transfer formalities.
Chelsea now focused interest on Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, a target to fill the midfield vacancy created by Enzo Fernández’s departure after two bids were rejected — an initial €45 million offer followed by a €50 million proposal, according to RMC Sport.
